A little older and a lot wiser, this Bronx native is keeping the ball rolling.
Not the previously beloved basketball, but her current dream of being one of the best to pick up a mic. A lot has changed since Poca the Papergirl's last CD "Where Poc Been?". Image wise she has done away with the bone straight hair, that most know her for, and has decided to take the spiritual route of locking her hair. “No perm just some locks and a long john", is how Poca would describe it. Music wise, She has made the leap from X-Family Entertainment (founded by herself and Spanish Joe) to AudioWorx ENT, which is run by New York's underground kingpin Skyzoo. Another thing that has changed and Poca is very proud of, is she now holds a bachelor's degree in business management. Though she has yet to find her niche in the business world, Poca is a strong believer in fate and believes her struggles are not in vein. Instead, she believes they came in order to encourage people going through the same, by way of her music.
During her hiatus, Poca has grown and rebirthed. She is even more passionate about her story, her struggles, and her lyrics than she has ever been. She believes millions of women can relate to new tracks, from her current project entitled, “The Comeback Kid”’ such as "Misunderstood" and "The Come Up" (produced by Dj Mills). Tracks like these give fans an insight into where Poc's been this time around.
Poca's previous project, "Where Poc Been?" has allowed her to be featured in/on media outlets such as Onwax magazine, streetcosignor.com, soulfullvibes.com, and respectance.com. With guest appearances by Skyzoo, Hasan Insane, John Shotti, Wordsmith, producer L.A Eric G, and battle queen Lady Luck, Poca is sure to gain much more media attention this time around.
Nikes laced up, Polo shirt brushed off, Poca is ready to lead the movement for "papergirls" everywhere. When asked who she is this time around, Poca simply replies, "The Comeback Kid! Back like I never left. Ahhhhh, ha, ha, ha, ha".

Mic Check of the week goes to up and coming artist Topic.Topic's passion and desire to fulfill his dream, landed him a record deal with SRC Records (Universal Music Group). His new Mixtape American Hustler hosted by DJ Warrior & DJ Felli Fel has got him a buzz in the streets. Topic has collaborated with R&B singer Trey Songz to bring you his hot single " I Gotta Get It" . Check out his Bio below to get acquainted with recording artist Topic.
Life for ‘Topic’ began in West LA and evolved in West Covina throughout his adolescent years. The Yin and Yang lifestyle of religious based principles instilled by his mother and hard knock life experiences learned from his father laid the foundation on which this universal rap artist was formed.
Extremely confident in his ability to write or rap about anything, hence the evolution of the epithet “Topic’. No literary form of expression can exist without a ‘Topic’. Having a true love for music since the early days of his youth, Topic began singing and writing his own lyrics in grade school. By the summer of 8th grade writing his first rhyme created a natural euphoria for the lyricist, and an addiction for which there is no cure, only temporary relief. In 1993, Topic had his first experience in a professional recording studio. He took advantage of the opportunity and learned all he could about the mechanics behind the development of a song.
An innate passion for writing combined with being outspoken and a natural leader, this lyricist is certain to accomplish what he wants. What he wants is to share his truth on different points of discussion by expressing them in his lyrics. There is truly no fear emanating from this man when a pen is in hand. In love with the lyrics that flow from his soul he stirs up the game on a mental level while stimulating your desire to move to the beat.
Along with staying modest, balancing confidence with humility and driven by a passion to spit the truth, Topic began performing in local clubs, competitions and underground spots throughout LA, the Inland Empire, and West Covina. The development of his own company BOSS (Business Over Stupid Shit) Life World Inc. is a testament to the prodigious potential the artist possesses.
Topic has endured a series of tribulations synonymous with the testing of Job. His lyrical schemes reflect the influence of his life experiences as well as those around him. Marrying his strengths, insecurities and weaknesses with the melodic element of hip-hop, it is ingenious the way he brings the truth so uninhibited it exposes the very soul of the man.
The Boss of it all with a canvas of soul felt, epic beats of street life and hard-core hustle make it difficult for you to ignore the formidable hip-hop rap artist. Possessing all attributes of a West Coast gangster but the demeanor of a true businessman, this prolific rapper honed his skills and landed a record deal with SRC Universal through the independent label Drama Family.
Previously working with “WC” of Westside Connection, Knocturnal, and Shanta formerly of Aftermath, also alongside producers such as; Johnathan “JR” Rotem, Cool and Dre, Jelly Roll, and Neff-u who has production credits for almost every music genre, and artist from Dr. Dre to U2. Now label mates with such artists as the world renowned multi-platinum selling Akon and David Banner, Topic will soon accomplish his mission to make a predominant impact in the Industry.
‘Topic’ can be defined as complex but not complicated, simplistic but by no means simple. Ardently motivated by success and God’s timing the intimate, hard-hitting songs written by this artist are sure to induce an encore.
Mic Check of the week goes to a talented young lady Dejahvue from Brooklyn. The self proclaimed princess of Hip Hop has created a buzz with her new single "I'm that chick"which has currently over 300 spins nationally. Check out her bio and music below.
Empowering Lyrics, Refreshing Tunes, & Undeniable Star-Power……. Dejahvue reminds you of what’s missing from the game…..Raw Talent. More than just a pretty package Dejahvue is a certified triple threat that can rap, sing, and dance. In addition, she’s a monster on the court and idolizes Allen Iverson, even wearing his trade mark number three on her team. Far from the cookie cutter artists assembled & reproduced by imitative record executives; this 4foot 11inch beauty is bringing nothing but heat. Born on November 5, 1990 to Nicole & Timothy Harris, and raised in the gritty streets of East New York Dejahvue started humming and singing before she could walk & talk. At eighteen months, Dejahvue’s family & friends were treated to her first, but far from last solo performance. At the age of 4, her father became an innocent victim and was tragically shot in a senseless dispute. Although they only shared a short time together, Dejahvue acquired his love for basketball and hip-hop. Life following her father’s death was a series of struggles. Forced to become a single-parent Nicole kept her daughter active in dance & voice lessons. She grew up listening to Lil Kim, The Notorious BIG, Tupac and Jay Z.
In 2000, at a charity event attended by Wyclef, Jada Kiss, June Ambrose, and others the young starlit blew everyone away with an impromptu dance performance. That performance raised eyebrows and invited inquiries about the budding star. From talent shows to block parties, Dejahvue has displayed her talent all over Brooklyn, and is now ready to share it with the world. Having been around hip-hop royalty all her life from Jay-Z carrying her around when she was an infant to playing around in Kool G Rap’s studio; it’s no wonder she effortlessly commands the microphone. Her confident lyrics and sassy delivery is sure to capture & keep your attention. At the age of 16, she is the first artist to be signed to Pink Panther Records. Her debut single, “I’m That Chick”, is fast becoming the new anthem for young ladies everywhere. Dejahvue is assuming her title as the “Princess of Rap” and doesn’t plan on going anywhere, anytime soon.Dejahvue MySpace page
“I have issues” JIMMIE REIGN states, “just like the rest of the world has issues. My catharsis is translating all the negative and positive energy from my life into music that people love and can feel.”
Just looking at the beautiful songstress, you would think she’s had it made. She’s gorgeous and talented. But dig deep below the beautiful exterior and you will find that JIMMIE REIGN is not just a pretty face.
“The First Lady of the Bay” grew up all over the San Francisco Bay Area in a loving two parent home with her three sisters. The girls father, a church preacher, taught them all how to sing and harmonize with one another. JIMMIE, the oldest sibling, was “Daddy’s Little Girl” so her world was shattered when her parents divorced. The three young girls were shuttled in between both parents for years as other familial issues ran rampant. “Things in my life changed so drastically,” divulges the siren, “I was forced to grow up quickly because of new responsibilities. Consequently, I didn’t really have a childhood and a lot of my songs reflect things that have happened during that time.”
JIMMIE found solace in music. Since the age of 14 she has worked with producer Brian Morgan (SWV), songwriter and recording artist J.Valentine (J Records), producer Paul Anthony of Full Force (Backstreet Boys), and Capitol Records recording artist Clyde Carson . Currently her singles “Make You Wait”, “Tryin’ To Be Your Girl” and “Superstar” are receiving radio airplay on 106 KMEL, WILD 94.9, KBMB, KSFM, KVEG and the Sirius Radio Network. She has shared the stage with Keyshia Cole, Jagged Edge, Latoya London, & Chico Debarge. Her face and name are now forever polarized in the pages of Right ON!, Stash, D101 (UK) Hood Magazine & the East Bay Express, while her cameo in J.Valentine’s video “She Worth The Trouble” marked her major television debut.
JIMMIE’s career success and life experiences left her life in a constant struggle between a grown woman with responsibilities and the eternal “Daddy’s Little Girl.” This chronic imbalance has shaped her music into something that appeals to the masses. Songs from her mixtape “Go Girl,” sponsored by 106 KMEL, Singersroom.com and Right ON! Magazine, reflect melodies and music that adults can feel while infusing lyrics and themes that young people identify with. She effortlessly bridges the gap between Nu-Soul and Commercial R&B and accomplished the impossible task of gaining fans of both genres. With musical topics that tackle real issues such as single motherhood, broken home resentment, and poor self image, JIMMIE further places herself in the realm of platinum soul singers Mary J. Blige and Keyshia Cole whose die-hard fans love their realness. “When people see me, they don’t expect me to sing about the topics I do or be as real as I am. They think I am a woman who has everything going for her but really it’s not that easy. I have the same troubles with relationships that the next woman has, I have a family to take care of and I’ve got haters just like everyone else,” JIMMIE states. “The difference is that I am learning to put a positive spin on everything negative. I am learning to control my temper when negativity arises, and I am also learning that it’s ok to be by myself- I don’t need to be in a relationship in order to define who I am. I am finding that balance between being a grown woman and being “Daddy’s Little Girl”.
Jimmie Reign's singles "Make You Wait", "Tryin' To Be Your Girl" and "Superstar" have received radio airplay on 106 KMEL, WILD 94.9, KBMB, KSFM, KVEG and the Sirius Radio Network. Jimmie has opened for Keyshia Cole, Jagged Edge, Latoya London, Chico Debarge, Dwele & Bilal and was featured in Right ON! Magazine, D101 Magazine (UK) and Stash Magazine. She is a Bay Area Black Music Award and South Bay Music Award recipient. She is also one of the new faces of Michael Antonio Footwear Group.
Mic check of the week goes to R&B singer London. London caught our attention one night when was driving around and our friend Early Earl played his songs for us. His style of music is very catchy and enjoyable. I think all DJs should play his single " one 2 many" in every club, this is definitely a club banger. This R&B crooner has the image, swagger and talent to make a mark in this industry. Check out his bio below to get acquainted with London.
Born Noel Franklin Jr, London, was the middle of three siblings. The place he called home: Oakland, California. Out west, hip hop was the music of choice and that sound was the backdrop of his upbringing. He started off rapping in an 8-man rap collective called Keep It Clean. At that time, his birth name and stage name were one and the same. The group enjoyed moderate success on the local scene but something was missing. So, to keep up with what was hot in the mainstream, he began to sing the hooks of K.I.C's rap songs. Once he saw how the ladies' gravitated toward his fiery vocals, the transformation from Noel to London began.
In 2002, at the urgings of his mother, the young rapper/singer made a cross-country trek from Oakland to Atlanta. Not to pursue music, but to continue his education at the prestigious Morehouse College. While his head knew that his education was of the utmost importance, his heart was dedicated to music. So, 3000 miles away from his closest relatives, he made the decision to follow his heart. If he succeeded, he'd make his family and friends very proud. If he failed….
It wasn't easy. Skipping classes to make studio sessions, using tuition money to enter talent showcases, spending dorm fees on clothing. That pattern eventually led to expulsion from school and nowhere to live. But, fate and destiny would shine upon, the then homeless, Noel in the form of Universal/Motown A&R Shaun Harris and Corporate Thugz Entertainment's own, Demetrius “Kinky B” Ellerbee (co-CEO of CTE and business partner of Young Jeezy). During a chance late night encounter at Patchwerk Studios, Noel's talents would emerge. He penned and performed a record entitled “What If” that immediately caught the two executive's attention. “This wasn't your modern-day Hip-Hop/R&B. This was real music. His words and his talent took me to another place”, says Kinky B. That feeling of being somewhere new and exciting combined with that euro-look (a style he had long before it became popular) birthed LONDON!!! Kinky B instantly signed the singer to Key Players Music (KPM) roster and took him under his wing.
Now, armed with a catalog of classic love songs, many of them written or co-written by London, that forecasted glory is drawing near. Odes like “My Diamond” and “Sometimes” are just examples of the timeless music that lives in his heart. So what's left? London says, “I'd still like to work with Pharrell and Raphael Saadiq”. The addition of those two would complete an opus which is almost assuredly a classic. London has already worked with some of the industry's biggest and brightest stars including Grammy Award winners like Babyface, Ne-Yo, ERIC HUDSON, Neff-U, and Mike City.
The mystique, the style, and the story all in one artist. It doesn't take a plane ticket to experience London. Let London's music take you there. To check out London's Myspace page Click Here
Mic check of the week goes to Los Angeles Rap group Pacific Division. Pacific Division consist of 3 members Like, Mibbs and Be Young. This rap group started in 2000 where they all attended the same high school and played Basket Ball. I would describe their style of music as a mixture of early 90's hip hop and present hip hop. Their music has caught the attention of many known producers and artist like Pharell Williams , Quest Love ( The Roots) , Ludacris, Producer 9th Wonder and Snoop Dogg. I bumped into these guys on MySpace and fell in love with their lyrics , sound, creativity and their passion of Good and lasting music. My favorite tracks from PD are "F.A.T Boys '08" , "Gorgeous" , "Women Problems" , "All i want" and their funny ass song "Pause". I would like to end this Mic Check by saying that this group is dope and i admire the fact that they are not following the trend of wack ass music that only got a dance to it and a dumb ass chorus talking about nothing. This trio is definitely cooking up some good music, are you ready to taste???
Mic check of the week goes to Virginia native D.Folks. D.Folks is a pop/ soul singer with an incredible voice and sound. D. Folks always knew music would be part of his life and career since a very young age. His mother noticed his talents and would always bribe him with candy to sing in front of the family. At age 6 his mother bought him Prince's 1999 album and that changed his life forever. He has been working really hard for the past years to get noticed and achieve his dreams. His songwriting skill knows no equal and his production and arranging talents have been compared to that of Donnie Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and R.Kelly. If you need to escape from your daily radio songs you should definitely go with D.Folks his songs are so soothing , calm and relaxing. His talents have landed him to open up for The Roots and Virginia native Kenna. He was also featured in the Nappy Roots last album. My favorite songs from him are " Fresh cut Flowers" , "Stacey Love" and "Jupiter". D.Folks has his family Soul Provider Management holding him down and nothing will stand on his way to make a mark in the music industry. I would like to thank LMC for introducing me to D.Folks . During His 4 year stint he really started to feel alienated and lonely so he began to take music more seriously and really began to jot down his feelings and memories from what he learned from his environment, as well as his family. When HaLS left the military he continued to write and really put his experiences into music. Hals came out with a mixtape in the summer of 2006, which was received with a lot of great praises. Mic check of the week goes to producer , songwriter and performer Christina K . The first time i heard of Christina K was at a industry party and they were handing out some flyer with her pic and info , but i didn't really pay attention. Then me and LaFemme went to Club Lotus in NYC and they was playing this song " I got a boyfriend" and i was like oh shit this song is poppin and the Dj was like the song is by upcoming artist Christina K. I fell in love with her music and her style, i also admire the fact that she's a female producer. Then my friend from LMC send me info about her and talked so highly about her, so it was meant for me to have her up on site. SC was kickin it with Christina K this weekend and we had a blast , she is a beautiful person inside and out and with her positive attitude i am certain that she will takeover the music scene. click here to check out more info on Christina K.
She followed her heart. This simple, yet powerful statement can be used to express how the child born Christina Kamara emerged from the small town of Capitol Heights in Prince Georges County, Maryland to be staged as one of the next musical superstars in an oversaturated industry. Maintaining a balance of beauty, brains and talent, her unique style seamlessly blends hip-hop and pop genres without effort. It is the true love for music that has fueled this young woman’s passion and dedication.
Born to teenage parents while her father was incarcerated, Christina’s life has always been inspired by a struggle to remain positive. As a child, Christina was often told by everyone that she encountered that there was something “special” about her. With many nights spent alone, the radio became her best friend, and music a form of escapism to deal with the daily dramas.
Christina was identified as talented and gifted when she entered school, and was placed into special classes with other children who had special gifts. She wrote her first rap at the age of 5, and would play various instruments, yet had no formal training. Christina decided that she wanted to be a rapper after being heavily influenced by Salt-N-Pepa during the 80s. She later went on to attend Bowie State University, where she studied marketing. Her plans were to graduate with a marketing degree and move to New York to work as an A&R at a major record label, in order to learn the business of music.
A chance meeting as a teenager would change her life forever. While at a nightclub in DC one evening, Christina crossed paths with a young producer from Philly, and he agreed to produce two songs for her. This was the first time that she ever had a chance to work with a producer in a studio. She became so fascinated that she decided that she was going to produce herself. She researched all the equipment that she had observed, and used her savings to purchase her own pre-production studio. Christina worked day and night at making beats on the MPC, soon realizing that she was really good. With no formal musical training, she had taught herself to produce, write and arrange full songs.
Christina soon felt that she was ready to move to New York and made the decision to leave school early. After relocating to New York, she began waiting tables and interning within the music industry. In 2005 she began working for a high-profile publicity and event coordinating boutique firm, and this opportunity would lead her to daily interactions with artists, executives, and producers. She was able to meet the very artists that had inspired her, and she learned that her dreams could be real. These encounters allowed her to produce records for Jive recording artists, as well as record with rapper Pit Bull.
Although she had a highly regarded job within the music industry, in late 2006 Christina began to feel that she was not fulfilling her life’s purpose. She decided to leave her job in February 2007, to wholeheartedly pursue her lifelong dream as a musician. Armed with the knowledge of both the artistic and business aspects of the music industry, Christina was ready to take her position as one of the world’s next legendary female artists.
Christina’s self-produced single “I Got a Boyfriend,” is currently gaining spins at Top 40 and Rhythmic stations throughout the country. In the truest essence of the 80’s, the light-hearted record reminds listeners of a time when hip-hop was fun. Her debut album will feature creative songs with strong concepts that appeal to all ages. In addition to recently securing a licensing agreement with MTV, she also commits herself to doing volunteer work within her hometown. As an artist, producer, songwriter, trendsetter and personality, Christina has limitless potential and a radiant enthusiasm to share with the world. Christina K. has been planning for her shining moment for her entire life, and proves to be aninspiration to all.

If you're into electric , pop ,rock and hip-hop then check out Pennsylvania native Sied Chahrour, aka Pittsburgh Slim, went from local hero to hip-hop superstar in late 2007.Slim began rapping at the age of 12, all the while playing guitar in several post-punk bands. The eclecticism helped shape his unique sound which finds the Pennsylvania native laying smooth rhymes over mashed-up beats that sample everyone from Devo to Rihanna. The half-Mexican, half-Algerian Chahrour first came on the scene in 1996 when he helped form Pittsburgh's popular rap crew Strict Flow. The group pressed their own debut album, Homegrown, in 1997 before being signed to J-Live's Raw Shack label in 1999. That same year their "People on Lock" single appeared, but the title to their 2002 release Without Further Ado referenced how slow things were moving for the crew. They dissolved after the album's release, so Slim was off to Los Angeles to get closer to the music business. He waited tables by day and shopped his music by night until his longing to see "Girls Kiss Girls" turned into a song. The incredibly infectious song began breaking on radio not in L.A., but back home in Pittsburgh, thanks to the city's KISS FM radio station. From there it began to make an impression on both coasts and offers to relaunch the single came in from some high-profile labels. None of the labels were looking for an album, and while Slim was well aware the song was a novelty hit, he also knew he still had the indie rap skills that made Strict Flow well respected, so he held out for a long-term deal. He got it after a meeting with Def Jam executive Jay-Z. The label released Slim's seven-track Tastemaker Album at the end of 2007. It was promoted by a "Girls Kiss Girls" video. If this wasn't enough for you and would like to see more, you can check him out February 5th at the Knitting Factory at 8pm. Check out his site www.myspace.com/pittsburghslim
